The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) licenses and supervises us. The registration details above come from the FSCA’s public register of financial services providers, checked on 28 September 2026, and match our licence certificate.

What our licence covers

We hold a Category I licence. This means we can:

  • give you advice about the financial products listed below; and
  • provide intermediary services: help you apply for, change or claim on those products.

Our advice comes from our people, not from an automated (“robo”) advice tool. A Category I licence doesn’t allow us to make investment decisions for you without your approval (that needs a Category II licence). It also doesn’t allow us to run an investment platform (Category III).

For each product below, we’re licensed for both advice and intermediary services.

Product on our licence What it covers
Long-term insurance subcategory A Funeral cover
Long-term insurance subcategory B1 Life, disability and health cover (such as severe illness cover) that pays out only when an insured event happens and has no investment value
Long-term insurance subcategory B1-A The same kind of cover, where the insurer asks few or no medical questions
Long-term insurance subcategory B2 Life policies with a guarantee, such as an investment policy with a guaranteed minimum return in rand, or an annuity that guarantees a minimum income
Long-term insurance subcategory B2-A B2 policies where the insurer chooses and manages the investments and you can’t change them, such as some guaranteed life annuities
Long-term insurance subcategory C Other life policies, mainly investments without a guarantee, such as endowments and investment-linked living annuities
Retail pension benefits Retirement annuity funds (RAs) and preservation funds
Pension fund benefits Benefits from pension and provident funds, such as your employer’s retirement fund
Shares Shares in companies, including shares listed on a stock exchange
Participatory interests in collective investment schemes Unit trusts and similar pooled investments, but not hedge funds
Health service benefits Medical scheme (medical aid) cover
Short-term deposits Bank deposits, including foreign-currency deposits, with a term of 12 months or less (not structured deposits)

Our licence doesn’t include short-term insurance, such as car, home or business insurance.

If our licence, or the products we can offer, mean we can’t find a product that suits you, the law says we must tell you. We must also decline to recommend a product and suggest that you get advice from another suitably authorised provider.

There are no conditions or restrictions on our licence, and the FSCA has not granted us any exemption.

Who is responsible for our advice

Key individuals

Key individuals manage and oversee the financial services we provide. Ours are the three listed on the FSCA register:

  • Adrian John Clayton
  • Mark Craig Dryden Elstob
  • Steven Mills Ikin

Our representatives

Our planners are our representatives. We accept responsibility for what they do within the scope of their mandate with us, as section 13 of the FAIS Act requires. Before a representative provides a financial service to you, they must give you confirmation of this, certified by us.

Our representatives are Steven Ikin, Craig Elstob, Mark Elstob and Kirsten Marwick. None of them works under supervision. Adrian Clayton is a key individual but does not advise clients.

Compliance officer

Our compliance officer checks that we follow the FAIS Act and the codes of conduct. Ours is Seshini Magan of Compli-Serve KZN (Pty) Ltd, a licensed compliance practice (CO7151). You can reach our compliance officer on 087 897 6970 or at seshini@compliserve.co.za.

Professional indemnity and fidelity cover

Professional indemnity insurance covers our legal liability if a client suffers a loss because of our negligence. Fidelity insurance covers losses caused by dishonesty, such as theft by an employee.

Our professional indemnity insurance is underwritten by RisQ Services (Pty) Ltd on behalf of Infiniti Insurance Limited.

We also hold fidelity insurance cover. Both policies are current.

How we’re paid

Before you commit to anything, we tell you in writing what we’ll earn. Where the amount can be worked out in advance, we show it in rand.

  • Fees you agree to. We may charge a fee for analysing your needs and circumstances and preparing our advice. We may also charge an ongoing fee for maintaining and servicing your investments and cover with us. You agree to each fee in writing. The agreement sets out the amount, how often it’s paid, how it’s paid, who receives it and what we do for it. You can stop an ongoing fee at any time.
  • Commission from insurers. When you take out a life insurance policy (such as life, disability or severe illness cover), the insurer pays us commission. Regulations under the Long-term Insurance Act set the maximum.
  • Commission from medical schemes. When we help you with medical aid, the medical scheme pays us commission, within the maximum set under the Medical Schemes Act.
  • A rebate from Momentum Wealth International. On some of the funds our clients hold with Momentum Wealth International, it pays us a rebate of between 0.13% and 0.50% of the amount in the fund. It’s a fee-sharing arrangement and doesn’t change the fees you pay.

All fees and commission are disclosed to you in writing.

Product suppliers charge their own fees as well, such as platform and fund management fees. These are taken from your investment or premium, and we show them to you before you decide. Read more on our How we work page.

Conflicts of interest

A conflict of interest is anything that could get in the way of fair, unbiased advice. Examples are commission, a gift, or a relationship with a product supplier. We must avoid conflicts where we can, reduce the ones we can’t avoid, and tell you about them in writing.

Read our conflicts of interest summary to see how we manage them and what payments we may receive.

Product suppliers we work with

Product suppliers are the insurers, investment platforms, fund managers and medical schemes whose products we advise on. Where our licence and agreements let us choose between suppliers, the law says we must use our judgement objectively, in your interest.

We offer products from these product suppliers:

  • Allan Gray
  • Bidvest Life
  • BrightRock
  • Cadiz
  • Discovery Health
  • Discovery Life
  • Fedgroup
  • Hollard
  • Investec
  • Liberty
  • M&G Investments
  • Marriott
  • Metropolitan
  • Momentum
  • Momentum Wealth International
  • Nedgroup Investments
  • Ninety One
  • NorthStar Asset Management
  • Oasis
  • Old Mutual
  • Old Mutual International
  • Old Mutual Wealth
  • PPS
  • PPS Investments
  • Profmed
  • PSG Asset Management
  • PSG Group Limited
  • Sanlam
  • Standard Bank Offshore
  • Stanlib

Your planner can give you any supplier’s address, phone number, and compliance and complaints contacts.

No product supplier places conditions on the products or services we can offer.

The law also says we must tell you if either of these applies:

  • we hold more than 10% of a product supplier’s shares, or a similar large financial interest in it; or
  • in the past 12 months, more than 30% of our total remuneration, including commission, came from one product supplier.

Neither applies. We don’t hold, directly or indirectly, more than 10% of any product supplier’s shares, and in the latest financial year no more than 30% of our total remuneration came from any one product supplier.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with our advice or service, please tell us. Our complaints page explains how to complain and how to reach the FAIS Ombud if we can’t resolve it.

How to check that we’re licensed

  1. Go to the FSCA’s search for authorised financial services providers.
  2. Enter 7885 as the FSP number, or search for the name “Finplanning”.
  3. Open our entry. Check that our status shows as authorised, and look at the products and key individuals listed.

You can also call the FSCA’s toll-free contact centre on 0800 20 37 22.

Criminals sometimes copy real firms’ names and FSP numbers. If someone claims to be from Finplanning and something feels wrong, call us on 033 342 2382 before you pay anything or share your details.
