Terms of use

The terms that apply when you use this website, its guides and its calculators.

Last updated 29 September 2026

These terms apply when you use finplanning.com (“the website”). By using the website, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the website.

Who we are

This website belongs to Finplanning (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2009/007189/07, an authorised financial services provider (FSP 7885). Our contact details are at the end of these terms.

General information, not advice

Our guides, videos, checklists and product explanations are general information for education. They aren’t advice under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (the FAIS Act), because they don’t take your personal circumstances, needs or goals into account.

Before you make a financial decision, speak to one of our planners or another suitably authorised financial services provider. We give advice only once we understand your situation.

Nothing on the website is an offer to sell you a financial product, or a promise that a product will be available to you.

Calculators and tools are illustrative

Our calculators give rough, illustrative estimates to help you think about your options. They:

  • use the figures you enter and the assumptions shown on each tool;
  • use the tax figures for the tax year stated on the tool; and
  • show ranges, not promises. Investment returns, inflation, tax rules and your circumstances can all turn out differently.

The results aren’t advice, and they can’t tell you which product to choose. Please don’t rely on them alone to make a decision. A planner can check them against your real numbers.

Accuracy and updates

We work to keep the website accurate and up to date, and our guides show when they were last updated. But laws, tax rules and product terms change, and mistakes can happen.

We may update, change or remove any content without notice. We can’t promise that the website will always be available, or free of errors or viruses.

Using the website properly

Please don’t:

  • use the website for anything unlawful or fraudulent;
  • try to get unauthorised access to the website, our systems or anyone’s information;
  • send spam, or use bots or other automated tools to fill in our forms; or
  • enter someone else’s personal information without their permission.

We own, or have permission to use, the content on this website, including its text, graphics, logos, videos, tools and code.

You may view, download or print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, and share links to them. You may not copy, republish or sell our content, or use our name or logo, without our written permission. Other organisations’ names and logos belong to them.

We link to other websites, such as regulators and ombuds, for your convenience. We don’t control those websites. We aren’t responsible for their content or for how they handle your information, and a link isn’t an endorsement.

Our liability

We provide the website’s general information and tools free of charge, as they are. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss or damage caused by:

  • relying on general information or calculator results from the website without getting advice;
  • the website being unavailable or interrupted, or containing errors; or
  • viruses or other harmful code, or the content of websites we link to.

These terms don’t exclude or limit our liability for loss caused by our gross negligence, wilful misconduct or fraud. They also don’t exclude any liability that the law doesn’t allow us to exclude. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the FAIS Act.

If you become a client, the agreement and disclosures you receive then also apply to our services.

Privacy and cookies

Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information. Our cookies page explains what the website stores in your browser.

Law that applies

South African law governs these terms, and South African courts may hear any dispute about them. This doesn’t stop you from using a free ombud service for a complaint about our financial services. See how to complain.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version. If you keep using the website after a change, the updated terms apply.
