Am I on track for retirement?

A range for the monthly income your retirement savings could provide, in today’s money.

An early estimate of your retirement income gives you time to save more, or to plan differently, while you are still working. This tool gives a range, not a promise. It assumes you keep saving the same amount each month, increased with inflation, until you retire.

On these assumptions, you may fall short.

Even the higher case doesn’t reach your target. The earlier you act, the more options you have.

Saving about R11,363 more a month would reach your target even in the lower case.

How this works

This tool is for education. It isn’t advice and it can’t promise any outcome. Results are illustrative and depend on the assumptions below. Tax figures are for the 2026/27 tax year, checked on 28 September 2026. Announced in Budget 2026 and applied by SARS from 1 March 2026. The Bill that makes them law is still before Parliament.

Growth above inflation, lower caseResults are in today’s money, so we use growth above inflation. Investments can do better or worse than this range.
2%
Growth above inflation, higher case
5%
Income drawn each year in retirement, as a share of savingsA living annuity lets you draw between 2.5% and 17.5% a year. Drawing more than 5% a year raises the risk of running out.
4.5%
Retirement income to aim for, as a share of your income todayA common rule of thumb. Your own target depends on your debts, your home and how you want to live.
